Transport Minister chairs General Assembly meeting of Nile Valley River Navigation Authority

The Acting Minister of Transport, Engineer Hisham Abu-Zaid, and his Egyptian counterpart, Engineer Kamel Al-Wazir, co-chaired meeting of the General Assembly of the Nile Valley River Navigation Authority, in the presence of Ambassador Mohamed Elias Mohamed El Haj, the Ambassador of Sudan In Cairo and the Chairperson and members of the Board of Directors of the Authority.

The meeting began with a speech by the Egyptian Minister, in which he affirmed that the Egyptian Ministry of Transport is implementing a comprehensive plan to develop the Nile Valley Authority in cooperation with the Sudanese side, stressing that it is high time to develop this important sector, specially that it embodies a pioneering model of cooperation between the two brotherly countries, which contributes to enhancing intra-regional trade and increasing the volume of joint trade exchanges.

For his part, the acting Minister of Transport affirmed that the Nile Valley Authority is the ideal icon for joint cooperation, noting that the authority is of great importance in Sudan and that everything that contributes its development finds support from Sudan.

The meeting witnessed a review of the technical status of the current river units, the financial situation of the authority and its development plans, which include modernizing a number of existing river units or purchasing new river units, which contributes to supporting the authority’s fleet to carry out the tasks of transporting passengers and goods between the two countries
