Minister of Health: Adherence to Health Precautions is Necessary to Avoid Lockdown

The Minister of Health, Dr. Omer Al-Nagib, stressed that avoiding the lockdown of the country depends on the citizens’ commitment to the directives of the Higher Committee for Health Emergencies to wear masks in public places and institutions, especially with the advent of the holy month of Ramadan, to reduce the spread of coronavirus pandemic.

At a press conference at the Sudan News Agency (SUNA) on Saturday, the minister warned of the danger of the lockdown of the country and its direct impacts on citizens in the social and economic fields, especially with the advent of the holy month of Ramadan.

He indicated that the Ministry of Education fears the lockdown of the country due to its direct impact on the academic year, renewing his call for adherence to health precautions and the vaccinate of the elderly people and those with chronic diseases as well as the wearing masks and sticking to the social distancing and sterilization.

He said that the vaccination the most important weapon to combat the virus, and it does not prevent the infection or spread of the virus, but it reduces the risk of infection and death.

The minister stated that the coronavirus report on April 9 in Khartoum State revealed the infection of “31” persons and recorded one death, adding that these statistics appear in the examination centers for people who come for examination, whether they complain of symptoms or those who plan to travel abroad.

Dr. Al-Nagib warned that the virus will continue to exist in the country for a long time, calling for raising community awareness about the disease seriousness.

The minister expressed his regret on the death of patients in an isolation center in Khartoum, and wished mercy for them, disclosing that they died due to an electricity current defect in the isolation center, but not due to absence of electricity.

He said that there were six patients at the isolation center, three of them have passed away, and the other three were saved by transferring them to another isolation center, calling on the Ministry of Health of Khartoum State to conduct an investigation in this issue in order to avoid future mistakes and pointing out that health centers and hospitals suffer from an electricity crisis
