The Forces of National Movement and Sheikh Al-Tayeb Al-Ged, who launched the Call of the People of Sudan Initiative, have agreed on the need for realizing national consensus and working out practical steps to put the call into effect. This came when Head of Forces of National Movement Dr. Al-Tijani Al-Sisi met with Sheikh Al-Tayeb Al-Ged. Head of the Forces of National Movement said in a statement to SUNA that his meeting with Sheikh Al-Ged touched on the importance of starting the practical steps of the initiative especially that the situation in the country is pressing. Dr. Al-Tijani presented a roadmap that includes visions and ideas that contribute to the success of the initiative, based on the political declaration that was made earlier at Umm-Duwanban, and on which political and societal forces, youth and women were unanimously agreed. He added they agreed on importance of working to achieve national accord and unification of the national front to adress the risks and challenges facing the country.

The Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) will deploy an Election Observer Mission (EOM) to the Republic of Kenya to observe the general election scheduled for August 9, 2022.

The observer mission will be led by H.E. Dr Mulatu Teshome, the former President of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia.

“IGAD is honoured to be invited by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) of Kenya to observe this year’s general elections, and the regional organisation is pleased to continue to work with the people of Kenya, electoral institution, political leaders, and other observer missions to advance the democratisation process,” said Dr Workneh, the Executive Secretary of IGAD.

The Executive Secretary wished the people of Kenya a democratic peaceful and successful election.
