Kabashi meets EU’s envoy to Horn of Africa

The member of the Transitional Sovereignty Council, General Shams El-Din Kabbashi, met at the Republican Palace today with the European Union’s Special Envoy for the Horn of Africa, Annette Weber, in the presence of the European Union’s ambassador in Khartoum.

The meeting discussed the current political developments in the country and the efforts aimed at achieving a national consensus leading to the formation of a civilian government to manage the remainder of the transitional period and prepare for free and fair elections.

The member of the TSC affirmed the military institution withdrawal from the political process, and its support for the civil forces in order to achieve consensus, indicating that efforts are still continuing with all parties to reach an agreement.

Regarding the merger process, he noted that the technical committees are currently in continuous meetings with the aim of reaching a single national army in accordance with the legacy and systems of the armed forces throughout its long history and international and regional experiences.

The European Union envoy, Annette Weber, affirmed the European Union’s support for the political process in Sudan to bring about the desired transition, and urged all actors in the political arena to overcome differences and achieve the aspirations of the Sudanese people for democratic transition.

Weber stressed the need to achieve stability in Sudan, due to its impact on stability in the Horn of Africa and the neighboring countries.
