Head of UNITAMS Meets with Leaders of Revolutionary Front

The Head of the United Nations Integrated Transition Assistance Mission in Sudan (UNITAMS), Volker Perthes, Wednesday held a prolonged meeting at the Friendship Hall with leaders of the Revolutionary Front, headed by the member of the Transitional Sovereignty Council, Dr. Al-Hadi Idris.

In a press statement, Dr. Idris said that the Revolutionary Front has informed the Head of UNITAMS on the outcome of Juba peace agreement and the difficulties and challenges facing implementation the agreement, adding that they were also briefed by the Head of UNITAMS on its mission and the aspects in which the mission can contribute to helping the parties of the peace process, especially formation of the joint forces to protect the civilians.

Dr. Al-Hadi described the meeting as fruitful and useful, explaining that it resulted in the formation of a small joint committee to coordinate and to follow up the implementation of the issues raised during the meeting.

He said that the Head of UNITAMS, Volker Perthes, is concerned with the communication with the Sudanese leaders so as to strengthen his relations with them, based on his concern with the Sudanese affairs to serve the objectives of the mission.

On his part, Head of UNITAMS stressed in a press statement his mission’s keenness to support the transitional government and to achieve its goals by implementing the terms of the peace agreement and forming joint forces to protect civilians, describing the meeting as successful and fruitful for both Sides.

Meanwhile, Dr. Al-Hadi Idris affirmed the Revolutionary Front’s keenness to support the ongoing negotiations in Juba between the government and the People’s Movement – North toward achieving peace and stability all over the country.
