National campaign for rehabilitation of Gezira Scheme to be launched Saturday

Governor of Gezira Scheme Dr. Omer Marzouq has announced that the national campaign for rehabilitation of the scheme would be launched next Saturday at the Friendship Hall in Khartoum in the presence of Prime Minister Dr. Abdalla Hamdok.

Speaking at Sudan News Agency Press Forum today, the Governor pointed out that the Prime Minister will witness the start of wheat harvest in Gezira Scheme on March 7 at Al-Meaileq area.

Marzouk said that the scheme had suffered major collapse during the previous government period, including deterioration in its infrastructure and collapse of the relations between the three branches of the scheme of farmers, irrigation and management.

The governor called on all sectors, companies and citizens to support the campaign, stressing that the scheme’s management has opened all channels of contacts with the expatriate communities to participate in the restoration and rehabilitation of the scheme, which have announced their readiness to support the campaign.

Marzouq called on all parties to the negotiations on Renaissance Dam to reach agreement so that the scheme would not be negatively affected.
