Forum Stresses Importance of Exploiting Arab Capabilities to Achieve Food Security

 The participants in the forum of the Faculty of Agriculture, University of Khartoum, held Monday at Sharjah Hall, have stressed the importance of concerted efforts and exploiting the potentialities available in the Arab World to achieve Arab food security, affirming the pivotal role that Sudan plays in the field of food security.

The main paper of the forum was presented by Dr. Turki Faisal Al-Rashid, the Advisor at the Scholars Center for Agricultural and Administrative Studies and Consultations in Saudi Arabia, on the “Arab Food Security from an Investment Perspective in Sudan”, in the presence of academicians, businessmen and Sudanese experts in the fields of agriculture and investment.

Dr. Turki Faisal Al-Rashid reviewed in his paper Sudan’s role in achieving Arab food security, pointing to the capabilities that Sudan obtains to achieve regional food security.

He said that hat many countries have neglected the food industries and food production and relied on the imports from abroad at subsidized prices, a matter which led to the collapse of industry, food industries and agriculture in these countries.

He pointed to the necessity of overcoming the obstacles facing the foreign investments in Sudan, calling for the establishment of share-holding partnerships between the citizens and the investors.

Dr. Turki has described Sudan membership in the World Trade Organization is a step in the right direction.

On his part, the Ambassador of Saudi Arabia to Sudan, Ali bin Hassan Jaafar, has called in his commentary on the paper, for integration and concerted efforts between the Arab countries to solve the food shortage and to achieve Arab food security
