Beijing hosts promotion conference for investment in Sudan’s mining

The Sudan’s Embassy in Beijing, in coordination with Wuhan Geological Research Institute of the Chinese Ministry of Natural Resources, held yesterday, Thursday, the first promotional conference for investment in the field of mining in Sudan.

The conference was attended by a large number of Chinese companies working in the field of mining, with the participation of Dr. Abdullah Al-Kuwadi, the Undersecretary of the Sudan’s Ministry of Minerals, Mr. Zhong Ziran, Deputy Minister of Natural Resources of China and Chairman of the China Geological Research Authority, representatives of the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in addition to a number of Chinese experts and researchers interested in Sudanese affairs.

The Sudan’s ambassador to China, Dr. Jaafar Karrar Ahmed, held meeting with the Deputy Minister of Natural Resources of China and Chairman of the China Geological Research Authority, Zhong Ziran, the ambassador noted in a press statement that the meeting dealt with cooperation in the geological field between China and Sudan, conveying appreciation of the Sudan’s government and the Minister of Mining to China,  and desire to enhance cooperation with China within the framework of the Belt and Road Initiative.

Dr. Jaafar indicated that the aim of the conference is to promote 5 mining blocks in eastern Sudan (the states of Kassala and the Red Sea) after conducting a number of surveys and studies by the Chinese Ministry of Minerals in coordination with the Wuhan Institute for Geological Studies of the Chinese Ministry of Natural Resources.

the Chinese Vice Minister of Natural Resources, on his part pointed to the great positive efforts being made by the Wuhan Institute for Geological Studies in cooperation with the Institute of Geological Studies and Research in Sudan in the fields of training, geological research, survey studies and geochemical, pointing to the results that based on these research and studies, indicating the huge mineral resources for future exploration.

He expressed desire of Chinese Ministry of Natural Resources to strengthen cooperation with the Sudanese Ministry of Minerals in the fields of training, exploration, research, studies, transfer of modern technology, welcoming proposal from the Sudanese Ministry of Minerals, stressing readiness to encourge Chinese companies to invest in Sudan.

Dr. Jaafar Karrar Ahmed indicated that the conference is taking place after the removal of Sudan from the list of countries sponsoring terrorism and ending all financial restrictions imposed on Sudan, asserting the Sudan’s attraction to foreign investment, especially in the field of mining, with the vision of Prime Minister Dr. Abdullah Hamdouk of the (the five economic belts).

The Director General of the Geological Research Authority, Dr. Mohammed Saeed Zain Al-Abideen, reviewed the Sudan’s mineral potentials , pointing to the strong relations between Sudan and China in various fields, especially in the fields of mining , the study conducted by the two sides on evaluation of chromium in the Anqasana region, pointing to the agreements and memoranda of understanding between the two countries for the implementation of projects and the access of Chinese companies in the gold exploration blocks and other minerals.

He commended great cooperation between the Sudanese Geological Research Authority and its Chinese counterpart in the fields of research, training and study, and allocating a number of squares in Sudan for study by both sides in full coordination with the Geological Research Authority.

The representative of the Chinese Foreign Ministry reviewed in his address to the conference the history of the Sudanese-Chinese relations, the Chinese assistance to support Sudan in combating the Covid 19, indicating the arrangements underway for the soon transfer of  China to Covid 19 virus vaccines to Sudan.

He noted to the great cooperation between Sudan and China in the fields of infrastructure and the medical field, pointing out that China is one of the largest trading partners of Sudan, expressing his hope for great achievements and investments with Sudan in the field of mining.

On his part, the deputy director of the Chinese Geological Research Authority, Dr. Li Pengda, asserted the great cooperation between China and Sudan in the geological field, affirming China’s readiness to cooperate with Sudan in the fields of training, studies, geological surveys, remote control and remote sensors.

A presentation on investment opportunities in the field of mining in Sudan  was presented by Dr. Mohammed Othman Al-Jazouli who pointed to the Sudan’s  geographical location , the infrastructure that encourages investment in the field of mining with the Red Sea two ports’(Suakin and Port Sudan).
