Court of June 30, 1989 coup case adjourns session for technical reasons

The court trying perpetrators of June 30,1989 coup adjourned its session today to July 27 following Eid Al-Adha holiday in response to a request by the prosecution  panel, arguing that there was no specialized technician in today’s sitting that can present videos and documents of the prosecution.

In the same session today, the court decided to proceed with the trial sessions and rejected the request of the prosecution that it submitted to adjourn the sessions until the Chief Justice decides on another request that it had presented to him  in which it challenged the court’s ability to achieve justice in this case.

The court argued that the prosecution’s request according to the Procedures Law does not justify adjourning the hearings and waiting for a decision by the Chief Justice.

The court had also rejected multiple requests by the defense team, including a request calling for the criminal case to be written off against the accused and decided to proceed with the procedures.

However, the prosecution team submitted a request to the court, that another session shall be scheduled because it has audio-visual documents and that the competent technician is not present.

After deliberating among its judges, the court decided to accept the request because the procedures could not proceed due to the absence of the technician.
