Action Service Al-Burhan Meets Director for Africa at the European External Action Service

The President of the Transitional Sovereignty Council (TSC), General Abdel-Fattah Al-Burhan, has reaffirmed commitment of the Armed Forces to exit from the political process and formation of a broad-based civilian government to lead the country during the remainder of the transitional period.

This came when Al-Burhan received in his office today Director for Africa at the European External Action Service, Ms. Rita Laranjinha, in the presence of the European Union Ambassador to Sudan Aidan O’Hara  and acting Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Ali Al-Sadiq.

Al-Burhan expressed his aspiration that the political process will proceed smoothly to its ends.

The TSC President expressed his hope that all parties will agree to achieve a safe exit for the country from the current political crisis leading to free and fair elections.

For her part, Ambassador Rita Laranjinha, stressed the European Union’s follow-up to the political situation in Sudan and its encouragement and support for the political process, stressing the necessity to end political differences in order to achieve the aspirations of the Sudanese people.

Ms. Laranjinha said that the EU is looking forward to working with the civilian government to engage in a new context that will enable them to strengthen relations with Sudan.

She added that it is very important to respect the right of peaceful assembly, noting that she will submit a report to member states on her visit to Sudan and the importance of supporting the next transitional government.

Ms. Rita Laranjinha pointed out that the EU is very much looking forward to working with the civilian government to engage in a new context that will enable them to strengthen relations

with Sudan.

She added that it is very important to respect the right of peaceful assembly, noting that she will submit a report to member states on her visit to Sudan and the importance of supporting the coming transitional government.
