Acting Foreign Minister meets Deputy Director General of IOM

The Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Ali Al-Sadiq Ali, met with Mrs. Amy Pope, Deputy Director-General of the International Organization for Migration and the US government’s candidate for the position of Director-General of the IOM, on the sidelines of the meetings of the 49th session of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the countries of the Organization of the Islamic Conference held in the capital of the Islamic Republic of Mauritania, Nouakchott, during the period from 16 to 17 March.

The meeting discussed many regional and international issues of common concern, including the importance of strengthening international cooperation in a way that contributes to protecting the rights of migrants.

The meeting also dealt with the request of the US government to support its candidate in the elections for the position of Director General of the IOM, which will be held in mid-May at the organization’s headquarters in Geneva.
