Trilateral Mechanism Welcomes Authorities’ Decision to Lift State of Emergency

Khartoum,   (SUNA) – The trilateral mechanism of the United Nations, the African Union and the IGAD has welcomed the authorities’ decision to lift the state of emergency and to release political detainees as positive steps to create the necessary conditions for a peaceful solution to the current political impasse.

The spokesperson of the trilateral mechanism, ambassador Mohamed Belaiche, said that the mechanism encourages the authorities to complete the release of detainees and to take further steps to ensure the protection of the rights for peaceful assembly and expression, adding that the mechanism also encourages all the stakeholders to prepare in good faith for a constructive dialogue regarding a political solution and a peaceful way out of the current crisis.

He stressed that the decisions taken by the authorities require a sincere political will for real and full implementation, stressing that the violence must stop so that talks can take place effectively with the aim of reaching a Sudanese-owned solution for the current political impasse.

Belaiche pointed out that the trilateral mechanism looks forward to starting direct talks between stakeholders to restore a civilian-led democratic transition.
