Sudan Liberation Movement, Led by Tambour, Launches Initiative for Reconciliation in Darfur

The Sudan Liberation Movement, headed by Mustafa Tambour, launched on Thursday a community reconciliation initiative to stop the bloodshed in the Darfur region, especially the states of West and South Darfur.

At the Sudan News Agency’s press forum, Tambour said that the initiative aims at reconciliation between all components and tribes of Darfur.

He pointed out that the Juba Peace Agreement is binding on all the signatories, and according to it an agreement was reached to send joint forces to maintain the security and stability in West Darfur State and to preserve security at the border with neighboring Chad.

With regard to the security arrangements, Tambour said that his movement understands the economic conditions that the country is currently surpassing, but this does not prevent it from abiding to implement the security arrangements by providing, stressing the need to provide an educational environment in the camps for the displaced persons and the work to implement the voluntary return of the displaced people to their home villages according to what was stated in the Juba Agreement.

Tambour has called for a comprehensive reconciliation for all Sudanese people, excluding the National Congress, which he said had a major role in fueling the tribal conflict in Darfur and distributing arms among tribes, which had a negative impact on destabilizing the security and stability in the region.
