number of deaths and injured in Greida Incidents

– The Security Committee in South Darfur State has given directives for the persuasion of the perpetrators of the incidents in the village of Habouba for the voluntary return, which resulted in a number of deaths and injured farmer.

The Security Committee headed by the acting governor, Hamid El-Tijani Hanun, has directed, during its field inspection of the security situation in Gereida locality, the persuasion of the perpetrators and arrest them, and the redeployment of the forces in the areas to secure the citizens and the agricultural season.

The acting governor noted In a statement to (SUNA) today, that the committee had received information about the incident and that measures have been taken to contain the situation, affirming the state and federal government concern on extending security and stability in Gereida locality, promising reinforcements of additional forces to prevent the recurrence of such incidents, and the transfer of the wounded to Nyala Hospital for treatment.

director of the state police, rapporteur of the Security Committee, Major General Ali Hasab al-Rasoul Ali, noted that  the unfortunate incident of (Habouba) made by a  treacherous attack from about (200) armed group , indicating the death of a Police Corporal, Mohamed Issa, from the Reserve Police and three citizens including a woman, with a number of wounded persons.

He promised that the joint forces will continue to protect the area and the agricultural season, pointing to the existence of  more than (40) combat vehicles in Gereida.

Meanwhile, the representative of the Traditional Administration, the village’s mayor , Amir Ibrahim, noted to a previous reports on repeated incidents, and that the perpetrators were not arrested.

The Acting Executive Director of Gereida Locality, Gasmullah Babiker, on his part asserted the  death of 5, including a policeman and a woman, and 18 wounded, as a result of the incidents calling for the need of tribal reconciliations, indicating  that security solutions alone are not sufficient.
