FAO delegation visits Meroe Locality

A delegation from the Office of the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) in Sudan has visited Meroe Locality headed by FAO Representative to Sudan Mr Babagana Ahmadu, accompanied by the Director General of the Ministry of Production in the Northern State, Engineer Hussein Abdel-Ghafour, where the delegation got acquainted with  a number of experiences in fish production at Meroe Dam Lake and the phenomena of palm fires in Nuri area.

During the delegation’s meeting in Meroe Dam Hotel, the departments of forestry, irrigation and fishing of the state and plant protection department of the locality reviewed detailed reports on the nature of their tasks and specializations and problems and challenges they face.

The Director-General of the Ministry of Production in the state affirmed in a statement to SUNA that the visit of  FAO delegation to the locality comes within the objectives of the  program of delegation’s visit to the state to provide support in the field of agriculture, raising the efficiency of palm farmers, develop processing industries, and address environmental problems through optimal use of water, protection of soil from desertification and desert encroachment, and addressing the phenomenon of palm fires
