National Organization for Widows and Orphans Starts its Charity Work

The Chairperson of the National Organization for Widows and Orphans, Shama Ahmed Al-Sayed, said that the number of widows supporting families in Khartoum State are estimated at 8,393, indicating that a survey has begun as an experience to count the number of widows and create database for them.

At the regular news forum of Sudan News Agency (SUNA) on Saturday, Shama indicated that they began extending support in the education field to orphans at the universities, especially to the students who are not able to pay the education fees.

She stated that the organization’s programs in the health field include the introduction of orphan students under the health insurance umbrella and issuing the organization’s membership cards for the widows to help delivering assistance to them.

Shama called on the benevolent persons, businessmen, the Ministry of Finance, the Zakat (Alms) Chamber, the Ministry of Social Welfare, the Endowments and the government to extend support for the organization, adding that Amal Dubai Charity Organization has supported the organization with 1.2 billion pounds to as help to the widows and the students unable to pay the school fees.

Salma Al-Ghali, said that the National Organization for Widows and Orphans is exerting efforts to establish 25 centers in Khartoum State, adding that the task of the centers is to provide health care to the widow and her children and to issue health insurance cards for them.

She indicated that the centers will hold training courses for the widows in the fields of first aid, bakery products and pottery works, adding that the centers annually celebrate the Orphan Day, mass circumcision besides extending the fasting food package and the Eid requirements to the widows and orphans.
