President of the Transitional Sovereignty Council (TSC) Gen. Abdel-Fattah Al-Burhan received at his office today Representative and Country Director of the World Food Programe (WFP) for Sudan Eddie Rowe, who briefed him on the activities and programs implemented by the WFP in the country.
Al-Burhan affirmed the government’s commitment to facilitating work of the humanitarian organizations operating in the country, overcoming the difficulties they face, and its concern for the safety and security of its workers, especially in Darfur region.
The Representative and Country Director of the World Food Program in Sudan said in a press statement that the meeting dealt with the overall security situation in the city of El Fasher, in backdrop of their recent meeting with the Wali (governor) of North Darfur State and the steps agreed upon regarding holding those involved in the attacks on the premises and property of the World Food Program in the city accountable.
He explained that he was reassured during the meeting about the measures recently taken to provide security and safety not only for the workers of the World Food Program but also for all personnel of UN and humanitarian organizations in Darfur states.
Rowe appreciated the steps made by the government to establish security and stability in Darfur, noting that the World Food Program aspires to provide the necessary assistance to vulnerable groups in coordination with the local authorities in Darfur.
