US affirms support to democratic transition in Sudan

Khartoum,  (SUNA) – The United States of America has affirmed its support to the democratic transition in Sudan.

US Acting Deputy Assistant Secretary of State Bryan Hunt said in a press statement following a meeting with Minister of Federal Government Dr. Bouthina Dinar here today, that his country supports the aspirations of the Sudanese people.

The Minister of Federal Government, on her part, explained that the visit of the American official comes in the context of US support to democratic transition in the country.

She pointed out that the meeting discussed implementation of the peace agreement in accordance with the Constitutional Document, adding that they also touched on the current situations in eastern Sudan and the efforts of the government to address the issue and holding the conference on governance there.

The US Acting Deputy Assistant Secretary of State said they are very concerned by the event of last week in Sudan when forces opposed to democratic transition attempted to seize power, noting that US is grateful to all parts of the transitional government for preventing that from happening.

He affirmed that the Constitutional Document and Juba agreement on peace in Sudan constitute good bases for the democratic transition in the country.

It is worth mentioning that the meeting was attended by First Undersecretary of the Ministry of Federal Government Dr. Mohamed Salih and Deputy Charge d’Affaires of the American Embassy in Khartoum Amber Baskette
