Foreign Minister Receives UN High Commissioner for Refugees

The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Dr. Mariam Al-Saddiq Al-Mahdi, received in her office on Monday the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, Filippo Grandi, praising the role of the Commission in supporting the refugees in Sudan.

She reviewed the efforts of Sudan to support and accommodate the Ethiopian refugees in eastern Sudan and affirmed Sudan keenness and continuous efforts to help achieving stability in Ethiopia, referring to the initiative of Prime Minister Dr. Abdalla Hamdouk in this connection.

Dr. Mariam also appreciated the UNHCR support to the IGAD initiative for sustainable solutions to the issues of displaced people, refugees and the host communities in Sudan and the Republic of South Sudan, expressing Sudan aspiration for continued coordination and cooperation to enhance the initiative and to attract support to it.

On his part, the UN High Commissioner for Refugees has appreciated the efforts of Sudan in supporting and accommodating refugees, affirming the UNHCR support to Sudan in this regard.
