Sudan and Egypt Discuss Increasing Electrical Connection

The Minister of Energy and Petroleum, Engineer Mohamed Abdalla Mahmoud, has stressed the importance of the electricity power linking with Egypt, especially under the current circumstances faced by Sudan, toward reaching 300 megawatts in the short run and 1000 megawatts in the long term.

This came during the minister’s meeting Wednesday at his office with the Ambassador of Egypt, in the presence of the General Director of  Sudanese Electricity Transmission Company and project manager.

The meeting discussed means to speed up the technical steps related to the project, top of which is the arrival of equipment to the stations  of Dongola and Merowe and the design of civil works from the German Siemens Company, which was contracted by the Egyptian side.

The meeting dealt with capacity building and training on the level of electricity and renewable and nuclear energies.

The minister assured the readiness for cooperation with Egypt in the proposed fields, as well as Sudan keenness to sign the final electrical interconnection project between the two countries, praising the deeply rooted relations between the two brotherly countries.

On his part, the Egyptian Ambassador expressed his country’s readiness to cooperate with Sudan in all fields, especially in the energy and electricity

fields, pointing to President Sisi’s directives to cooperate with Sudan and to increase the electrical connection to 1,000 megawatts.

He announced that the first week of next April will witness arrival of equipment for the Dongola and Merowe stations for Increasing the electrical connection from 70 to 300 megawatts

At the level of capacity-raising, the Egyptian Ambassador expressed the  readiness of Egypt to cooperate in raising capacities and sponsoring all the training sessions in the field of energy and electricity power for any number of Sudanese cadres working in the field of energy and electricity.
