Minister presents Sudan’s statement before United Nations Commission for Social Development

Minister of Social Development Ahmed Adam Bakheet has presented Sudan’s statement before the 60th session of United Nations Commission for Social Development ,which is held under the slogan “inclusive and resilient recovery from COVID-19 for sustainable livelihoods, well-being and dignity for all:  eradicating poverty and hunger).

In his address yesterday, the minister said that Sudan is now witnessing an exceptional stage and big challenges at the political, economic and social levels, in particular the requirements of democratic transition, armed conflicts, conflicts in neighboring countries, climate change and Covid-19 pandemic.

He stressed that the Government of Sudan is working to expand social protection systems for the displaced, refugees, vulnerable communities, women and the informal sector.

The government, through its institutions, has adopted several interventions to mitigate the economic and social effects of the pandemic, by reaching one million affected families.

He pointed out that Sudan seeks to achieve sustainable development goals by adopting many policies, strategies and projects through institutions and funds affiliated with the Ministry of Social Development by financing food security, agricultural

dignity of women, including criminalizing female genital mutilation and repealing the Public Order Act and approving the national plan for Resolution (1325) to contribute to achieving peace in conflict areas.

The minister reaffirmed Sudan’s commitment to the International Convention on Persons with Disabilities.

He valued the role of United Nations agencies and international and regional organizations in supporting social protection and poverty reduction programs.
