Minister of Transport Participates in Conference of Sea Transport in Cairo

The sittings of the Conference of the Red Sea and Maritime Transport and Logistics – Opportunities and Integration, which is being held under the auspices of the Egyptian Ministries of Higher Education and Scientific Research and Transport, are continuing during February 20 – 21 in the Egyptian capital, Cairo.

Sudan is being represented in the conference by the acting Minister of Transport, Dr. Hisham Abu-Zaid, who gave an address at the opening session in which he affirmed that great efforts are being exerted to enhance the sea transport.

He pointed to effectiveness of the strategies for promoting the sea transport at the regional and international levels.

The acting Minister of Transport stressed that the Red Sea is the gateway to the African continent, affirming the need to making it a pillar of sustainable transport for various countries of the world.

He congratulated his Egyptian counterpart on the great accomplishments achieved by the government of Egypt in the fields of infrastructures and transport.

He praised the great efforts and concern of Egypt with the exchange of visions and experiences on the maritime transport and the logistics system, stating that convocation of the conference at the current time will boost the joint work and create methodological foundations to contribute to the accumulation of experiences and the development

of appropriate strategies for the development of the Red Sea region, as well as supporting the ways to maximize trade exchange between the bordering countries, reactivating the marine insurance mechanisms in order to achieve the desired goal in developing maritime transport to serve the present and the future through comprehensive and balanced development.

In his speech, the minister touched on Sudan experience in rehabilitating the sea transport sector, explaining that Sudan has effective plans in the sustainable maritime transport, pointing to Sudan progress in the classific٧ations of sustainable transport, as Sudan is the ideal crossing for 50% of modern countries in Africa.

Dr. Abu-Zaid said the transport sector represents 70% of the material income of the African continent, a matter which requires support to the means of the technological transfer and the reviewing of the performance indicators of sea transport.

A number of transport ministers of Arab and African countries, a number of chairmen of boards of directors of sea transport companies and seaports, and a number of experts in the fields of transport and logistics have participated in the conference.
