Initiatives Concludes Sittings Workshop for Drafting Text Proposal on Unification of Initiatives Concludes Sittings

The African Center for Governance, Peace and Transformation Studies, in cooperation with the Center for Peace and Development Studies at Khartoum North University, has organized the Workshop on the Drafting of a text Proposal for Unifying National Initiatives, in the presence of representatives of political parties, the armed struggle movements and leaders of the civil society organizations.

The acting leader of the Umma Party, Maj. Gen. (Rtd.) Fadlalla Burma Nasser, stated in his address at the workshop that was held on Saturday morning at the Kannon Hotel that the purpose of the workshop is to unite the rank and the position of the Sudanese people, pointing out that Sudan has reached the stage that does not allow any differences from all political and civil forces.

He stressed that there is no way out of the current crisis, except through comprehensive national accord between the people of one nation.

The Head of the National Movement Forces, Dr. Al-Tijani El-Sessi, called on all the political forces, the civil forces, the Sufi orders, the youth and women to achieve national consensus, affirming their keenness on the unity of the country, its people and its soil.

He affirmed the need to agree on the mechanisms that govern the transitional period and the current issues of governance, the economy and the foreign relations, indicating that the country is not confined to one group, but of all the people of Sudan.

The Secretary-General of the African Center for Governance, Peace and Transformation Studies, Dr. Mahmoud Zainal-Abidin Mahmoud, said that the workshop is a continuation of the previous workshop for discussion about the analytical workshop presented by a team of experts at the African Center and the Center for Peace and Development Studies at Khartoum North University, and about the analytical paper of 27 national initiatives to overcome the current political crisis in country.

He said that heads of the political parties and the civil society organizations have participated in the workshop, revealing that they discussed the points of difference between initiatives such as the participation of the military in power, the form of the transitional government, and the references for the transitional period.

He indicated that the participants have focused on the importance of confidence building and paving the way to reach a national accord and to surpass the crisis and to ensure the country’s safety.

The leading figure of the Unionist Party – the  Origin, Mohamed Al-Muttasim Hakim, stated that the Sudanese people are able to overcome the current crisis and to reach a real democratic transformation, and this can only take place through free and fair elections.

He explained that that the tasks of the transitional government include the transfer the people to the ballot boxes through multiple procedures,

indicating that the Armed Forces is the guarantor of the unity of the rank.

On his part, the leader of the Union of Centre Entities (Gezira, Sennar and the White Nile) Dr. Mohamed Abdallah Kuku, said that the participation of the Armed Forces in government is a necessity that cannot be surpassed, calling for a federal government and formation of an independent civilian government with specific tasks that provide security and people’s livelihood and prepare for the elections, and to stand at the same distance from all the political forces.

He called for national reconciliation, pointing to the necessity of forming the Legislative Assembly from all the states of the country to monitor the performance of the executive government.
