ESAF civilian component elects Al-Shaarawy Muhammad Abdullah as coordinator

The civilian component of the East African Standby Forces  (ESAF) in Sudan elected Al-Shaarawy Muhammad Abdullah as coordinator after he defeated his rival Ghada Al-Hadi by 10 votes.

Director of the General Department of International Relations at the Ministry of Defense Major General Alaeddin Mirghani said that Sudan is the largest contributor to ESAF in terms of military and material terms, and that this contribution is not commensurate with its regional and continental representation, revealing a tendency to establish a regional center for peace building in Khartoum that would contribute to Sudan’s restoration of its Pioneering role in the African continent by building the capabilities of the three components of (ESAF): civilian, police and military.

The Director of the General Department of International Relations indicated that they are looking forward to greater coordination between the three components of ESAF in Sudan to enhance Sudan’s contribution to building peace, pointing out that ESAF was originally established to work to avoid the outbreak of conflicts on the African continent within the African Union’s strategy based on dividing the continent into five geographical sectors.

The Former Coordinator, Faisal Abdullah, presented briefing on performance
