Prime Minister Dr. Abdalla Hamdok has affirmed that Sudan’s success in completing the transitional period and achieving the goals of the glorious December Revolution contributes to creating a model for the countries of the region and helps create an environment conducive to achieve stability in the African continent.
This came when the Prime Minister met at his office with the U.S. Special Envoy for the Horn of Africa, Mr. Jeffrey Feltman, at the conclusion of his visit to the country.
The meeting touched on the divergence of views between Sudan and Ethiopia’s stance regarding the unilateral filling of the Renaissance Dam, scheduled for next July, and its disadvantages and risks to Sudan and the negative consequences it may have on the relations between the two countries.
The meeting also discussed Ethiopia’s claims regarding ownership of some Sudanese lands in eastern Sudan, as well as its creating problems due to the Sudanese Armed Forces opening up in eastern Sudan and securing and protecting Sudanese citizens on the borders.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Dr. Mariam Al-Sadiq Al-Mahdi, pointed out in a press statement after the meeting that the Prime Minister affirmed Sudan’s keenness on stability in neighboring Ethiopia and achieving accord between all ethnic components in Ethiopia, in addition to its keenness and aspiration to establish a relationship based on respect for good neighborliness and strengthening cooperation between the two countries.
She indicated that the meeting discussed ways and means to achieve peace, security and stability in the Horn of Africa, especially since the Prime Minister chairs the current session of IGAD, which is concerned with achieving peace and security in the area.
For his part, the American envoy affirmed the United States’ keenness on the stability of the region, and its support to the government of Sudan for the success of the transitional period and the completion of the democratic transition.
