Discussed Arrangements to Open Ceasefire Office in Central Darfur Discussed

The Wali (governor) of Central Darfur State, Saad Adam Babiker, chaired Wednesday at the Secretariat General of the state’s government the first meeting of the sectoral committee for a permanent ceasefire in the Central Darfur State sector at the level of the president, in the presence of the members of the state security committee.

The Wali indicated in a press statement after the meeting that the meeting discussed the arrangements related to opening the office of the sectoral committee for the permanent ceasefire in Central Darfur.

He said that the meeting also the tasks assigned to the committee and the implementation of the security arrangements clause contained in the Juba Agreement for Peace in Sudan and the permanent ceasefire, as well as coordination with the Central Darfur State Security Committee in terms of developing plans, arranging and implementing the decisions of the committee.

Saad explained that the sectoral committee for a permanent ceasefire is composed of 15 members from the government side (the Armed Forces, the Police Forces, the Rapid Support Forces and the General Intelligence), in addition to the armed struggle movements that have signed the Juba Peace Agreement.

The Wali (governor) of Central Darfur State expressed his hope that the committee would also contribute to building peace and social peace after the opening of its office in the state, calling on Sudan Liberation Movement’s Army, led by Abdul-Wahid Mohamed Nour, to join the peace process in the country.
