Chairman of Initiative of Nyala Annual Millets Festival, Ashraf Ahmed Saad said that the arrangements are underway for holding Nyala Annual Millets Festival- second version- during March 11-13 at South Darfur Museum at Taktik Tourist Park.
The annual Festival aims to shed lights on challenges facing the production of millet at the level of the region.
He said during a press conference held at Sobajo Center in Khartoum that millet is Important for people of Darfur for its economic , social, tourist and cultural dimension in addition to using it in making many and variety of foodstuffs.
Saad affirmed that one of objectives of the Festival is to preserve the humanitarian heritage,, especially that there are vast rain-fed agricultural arable lands in Darfur and that efforts being made to overcome challenges represented in provision of technology, funding and improved seeds by which it could contribute to the economy recovery.
He added that there are new partnerships with Indian Embassy in Khartoum , Production and Technology Partners and the Sudanese-Arab Company for Seeds for supporting and developing the project , pointing out that without partnerships promising plans could not be implemented particularly the provission of requirements for launching the project.
The Chairman of the Millet Festival Initiative unveiled that there will be another festival at beginning of the agricultural season in next May funding by the Indian Embassy, pointing out that United Nations declared 2023 is the International Year of Millet.
