Al-Burhan: We are working to remove phenomenon of proliferation of small arms among tribes

President of the Transitional Sovereignty Council General Abdel Fattah Al-Burhan has said the matter that takes priority in Sudan’s interests in the field of disarmament is the issue of the proliferation of small and light weapons.

Addressing the 77th session of the United Nations General        assembly this evening in New York, Al-Burhan added that Sudan, like many countries in the developing world, suffered from this dangerous phenomenon, explaining that the proliferation of small arms has often been linked to social and economic dimensions, which increased its spread among some tribes and population groups, pointing out that this makes the task of controlling these weapons a very difficult task.

The President of the Sovereignty Council stressed that Sudan is aware more than others of the extent of the seriousness of this phenomenon and the need to eradicate it through regional and international cooperation.
