Security and Defense Council holds emergency session

Security and Defense Council held yesterday evening an emergency session at the Republican Palace presided by President of Transitional Sovereignty Council (TSC) Gen. Abdel Fattah Al-Burhan.

Minister of Defense Lt Gen. Yasin Ibrahim pointed out in a press statement that the council discussed problems that hampered production at oil and mining areas.

He said the Council stressed the importance of observing community rights and setting up urgent development strategy to treat issues at affected areas with the activation of Quartet mechanism consisting of the Central Government, states, operating companies and stakeholders.

He noted that the council stressed on legitimate liabilities, resolving chaos and acts of sabotage that harm national security and the national economy.

Moreover, the Minister stated that the Council listened to a description and a professional briefing from the National Border Commission, reassured on the approved documents and maps that support Sudan’s political map, which confirms its strong legal position on conflicts.

He indicated that the council listened to enlightenment on the harmful activities on the northwestern borders with the State of Libya in the Triangle region, including drug, human trafficking, and smuggling of goods, cars and weapons, as well as illegal immigration.

On other development, the Minister said the Council deliberated on the issue of hosting a limited group of Afghan nationalities in the country for a certain period.

Furthermore, according to the Minister the Council reviewed all relevant aspects of the matter and decided an initial approval to host the group in response to the humanitarian appeal and subjected the case to more arrangements and procedures that preserve rights.
