The workshop to explain the updated matrix of the Juba Agreement for Peace in Sudan, signed on February 19, 2023, was launched Saturday at the Higher Academy for Strategic and Security Studies, under auspices of the Vice President of the Transitional Sovereignty Council (TSC), Gen. Mohamed Hamdan Daglo and under patronage of the National Peace Commission and the mediation of the Republic of South Sudan.

The Chairman of the National Peace Commission, Suleiman Mohamed Al-Debello, addressed the opening sitting of the workshop, stating that the matrix is an extension of the effort related to evaluating the peace agreement and restructuring as a priority, its three items need executive administrative decisions, financial decisions and will.

He said that the Executive, represented by the ministries, is the main body concerned with implementing the agreement agreement and that each ministry has some items that could be carried out.

Al-Debello expressed his thanks to the acting Minister of Cabinet Affairs, ministers and directors for attending this workshop, expressing his hope that it will reach its goals and objectives and that everyone will succeed in implementing the required items.

He noted that the international community has not provided the peace agreement with the required support since its signing and if the international community is keen on the democracy that it advocates, then the only way to achieve this end is to support the achieving of peace away from linking it to political issues.

On his part, the representative of South Sudan’s mediation team, Dheiu Mattok, spoke on behalf of Head of the South Sudanese mediation and Advisor to the President of the State of South Sudan, Tut Galwak, expressing his hope that the Sudanese people will succeed in reaching a comprehensive peace agreement that leads to stability, indicating that the stability of Sudan is stability for the countries of

South Sudan.

Mattok called on Sudanese people to seize this opportunity to carry out reforms in the state that consider peace is the real gate to achieving stability, development and democratic transformation, indicating that this can only come through genuine will.

He described the workshop as an excellent work and was attended by all executive parties, especially the civil service leaders, adding that “we have experiences in South Sudan in this field that can be benefited from”.

He stressed that the political will is necessary to reach a peace agreement.
