Workshop on national mechanism for human rights held

Khartoum,   (SUNA) – The Ministry of Justice has organized in collaboration with the Country Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) in Sudan a sensitisation workshop on the national mechanism for human rights, in the presence of Undersecretary of the Ministry of Justice, Seham Osman Mohamed.

The Undersecretary affirmed the important role of the mechanism, stressing keenness of the government of the revolution on promotion of human rights, which is proved by the provisions of the Constitutional Document.

The head of the Country Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights in Sudan, meanwhile, said formation of the mechanism is considered as a major step by the transitional government of Sudan, lauding the positive steps that have been made by the government, including the decision made by the Sovereignty Council on joining by Sudan to the International Convention for the Protection of All Persons from Enforced Disappearance and the Convention against Torture.

Rapporteur of the national mechanism on human rights Osama Mahmoud Homaida, on his part, enumerated reports that are to be presented by the mechanism to the human rights office that include, besides others, combating all forms of racism, children rights agreement and the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities
