Weapons Shipment Coming from Ethiopia Detained at Khartoum Airport

Khartoum,  (SUNA) – The Customs authorities Khartoum Airport have detained a shipment of weapons that arrived last night (Saturday) from Addis Ababa via the Ethiopian Airlines, explaining this issue is being investigated to identify the details.

The Committee for the Dismantling of June 30, 1989 Regime and Recovery of Public Money stated that it has informed the concerned authorities with information that a shipment of weapons is coming to Sudan from Addis Ababa via the Ethiopian Airlines plane, and the date of its landing at Khartoum Airport on Saturday evening, indicating that this ship was immediately seized by the Customs authorities, and that the investigation is being conducted by the Dismantling Committee’s prosecution.

According to the Dismantling Committee the weapons arrived in Ethiopia coming from the Russian capital, Moscow, in May 2019. and that the Ethiopian authorities had detained them there during the past two years, but without warning Addis Ababa allowed them to be transported to Khartoum on a civilian passenger plane.

The committee explained that the shipment consists of 72 boxes, containing weapons and night vision goggle-binoculars, pointing to suspicions that these weapons were intended to be used in crimes against the state, impeding the democratic transition and preventing the transition to the civil state.

Sources in the investigations indicated that the arrival of these weapons may be linked to the state of unruliness in the country, and did not rule out that they belong to the “People’s Security”, which was intending to use them against the revolutionists, but the investigation sources did not yet determine the beneficiary party and its relationship with the former regime.

The Dismantling committee’s member, Wagdi Salih, has confirmed, in limited statements on Sunday, correctness of the information received regarding these weapons.
