UNTAMS Mission Meets Delegation of Women of Freedom and Change

A delegation of women of the freedom and change met on Tuesday, with the Women’s Development Committee of the United Nations Integrated Transition Assistance Mission in Sudan (UNTAMS) at the mission’s headquarters in Khartoum, through a request of the Gender Unit  in the UNTAMS mission.

The meeting discussed the memorandum presented by the women of the political and professional organizations, which contains reservations about the speech of the head of the UNITAMS mission, Volker Perthes, in last December.

The memorandum also included the position of women politicians and trade unionists on the political process and the way the UNTAMS mission performed in the issue of the gendering the political process and the parties supported by it.

The two sides appreciated the discussion and agreed on appropriate planning to support the political process by developing strategic plans leading to the elections stage at the end of the transitional period.

A number of proposals were expressed to address the challenges that faced the joint work in the past period, such as the communication and the benefiting from expertise and technical aid.

The two parties agreed to continue coordination to support efforts to enhance the presence of women in the political process and the transitional power structures, and to involve them in the sovereign and constitutional positions and the various levels of power to ensure the active participation of women in the democratic civil transition, achieve progress in the file of women’s rights, and to reach the goals of the glorious December revolution.
