United States Shares Additional 1,000,350 Doses of Pfizer Vaccine with Sudan

The Embassy of the United States in Sudan is pleased to announce the arrival of 1,000,350 doses of Pfizer COVID-19 vaccines donated by the United States through COVAX, a worldwide initiative established to achieve equitable access to COVID-19 vaccines.  This batch brings our total number of vaccines provided to the people of Sudan to 4,685,480 and is part of our commitment in leading the global response to end the pandemic and with the singular objective of saving lives.  The cumulative U.S. donation of vaccines is the largest by a single country to fight the COVID-19 pandemic in Sudan.

Safe and effective vaccines are our best tool to end the pandemic, and the United States has committed to purchasing and donating over 1.2 billion COVID-19 vaccine doses worldwide.  To date, the United States has delivered vaccines to more than 115 countries.  Across sub-Saharan Africa, the U.S. Government has committed over $2.1 billion to 48 countries to respond to the COVID-19 pandemic and has donated over 181 million vaccine doses to countries in the region.  The commitment to provide COVID-19 vaccines to 92 Gavi Advance Market Commitment economies and African Union Member States will continue to fulfill U.S. President Biden’s commitment to strengthen the fight against the global pandemic.

As President Biden has said: the United States is committed to bringing the same urgency to international vaccination efforts that we have demonstrated at home.  We are sharing these vaccines to protect the lives of the Sudanese people and to lead the world in bringing an end to the pandemic.
