Sudan to Participates in Regional Ministerial Conference on Forced Displacement Issues

Khartoum,  (SUNA) – The acting Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Ali Al-Saddiq, received Monday in his office the Director of the Office of the High Commission for Refugees in Sudan, Mr. Axel Bishop who handed the minister an invitation to attend the Regional Ministerial Conference on Forced Displacement in the Central African Republic due to be held under the auspices of the United Nations High Commission for Refugees in Yaoundé, Cameroon, during April 25 to 27, in order to discuss solutions to the issues of forced displacement that occurred in the Central African Republic and resulted in the state of instability that this neighboring country has experienced in the past years.

The conference will be attended by the Foreign Ministers of Sudan, Chad, the Central African Republic, Cameroon, the Republic of South Sudan, the People’s Republic of the Congo (Brazzaville), the Democratic Republic of the Congo, a number of high-ranking officials from the United Nations, the African Union, the European Union and representatives of a number of other regional and international organizations.

The minister explained that Sudan has continued to receive a large number of refugees from neighboring countries, including the Central African Republic, pointing to agreement reached by the Central African government and armed groups after a mediation by Sudan government for the talks hosted by Khartoum in 2019, stressing Sudan commitment to the international laws and agreements related to asylum and the dealing with refugees.

It is worth noting that Sudan was among the countries that were directly affected by the forced displacement movement from the Central African Republic
