Sudan Participates in Meeting of IGAD Experts

The Regional Meeting of High-Level Experts in the IGAD countries began Wednesday in the Ethiopian capital, Addis Ababa, to adopt the regional strategy for the blue economy, which will be adopted next Friday at the IGAD ministerial meeting.

The Director of the Sub-Regional Organizations Department at the Sudanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Magdi Mufaddal, has affirmed the importance of the regional strategy for the blue economy for achieving the desired transformation in the region, and achieving the strategic vision for creating a region full of peace, prosperity and regional integration, in addition to its role in implementing the continental strategy for the blue economy, and achieving economic and social development in IGAD countries.

He affirmed the need of the countries at the region for support from all their regional and international partners in light of the great challenges they face in the fields of peace, security, economy, food security and the environment.

It is to be noted that the IGAD’s regional strategy for the blue economy covers the period 2021-2025 in all the economic fields related to water and marine resources, the environment, marine tourism, and marine and river navigation.

The strategy works in four axes: the structuring the blue economy in member states, creating pioneering projects to develop traditional blue economy sectors, and other projects to develop emerging sectors, as well as formulating and implementing regional initiatives for regional cooperation and integration in the field of the blue economy.
