Sudan participated on Wednesday in the opening sitting of the virtual semi-annual conference of foreign ministers of the countries of the Non-Aligned Movement, which was hosted by the Republic of Azerbaijan on its capacity as the current head of the Coordination Office of the Non-Aligned Movement.
The Sudanese delegation was headed by the Assistant Undersecretary for Political Affairs at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Elham Ibrahim Mohamed Ahmed, and included the Advisor Mohamed Ahmed Hejair, the Acting Director of the International Organizations Department, and Second Secretary, Mustafa Al Mubarak.
Sudan’s statement, which was read over by Ambassador Elham dealt with expressing sympathy with all countries, especially those afflicted by the coronavirus pandemic with its catastrophic effects on lives, the society and the economy, stressing the importance of international and regional cooperation to address the pandemic.
She stressed the importance of remembering the spirit of the Bandung Conference and the principles established by the founders to confront the threat posed by the pandemic.
The statement also reviewed the major political developments that Sudan witnessed after the glorious December revolution, focusing on the peace building, the transition issues and the institutional and structural reform, especially economic reform.
The statement of Sudan also called on the members of the Non-Aligned Movement to strengthen the factors of unity in order to realize the interests of the developing countries, especially the support to the efforts for liberation, prosperity and world peace, and to address the issues of democracy and good governance, the respect of human rights, and solidarity with the Palestinian people for establishing their state with East Jerusalem as its capital
