Sovereignty Council President receives delegation of Trilateral Mechanism

Transitional Sovereignty Council (TSC) President General Abdel-Fattah Al-Burhan received in his office today delegation of the Trilateral Mechanism concerned with facilitating dialogue between the Sudanese parties.

The delegation comprised Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General for Sudan and Head of the United Nations Integrated Transition Assistance Mission in Sudan (UNITAMS) Volker Perthes, the Special Representative of the African Union in Sudan, Ambassador Mohamed Belaiche and the representative of the Inter-Governmental Authority on Development (IGAD), Ambassador Mohamed Yunus.

The meeting dealt with the rapid political developments in the country and the prospects for getting out of the current crisis.

Ambassador Mohamed Belaiche explained in a press statement that the meeting of the members of the Mechanism with the President of the Sovereignty Council was characterized by a spirit of frankness and a common, sincere and strong will to reach a political settlement that would be engineered by the stakeholders themselves and on the basis of the broadest possible consensus.

He stressed that dialogue between the Sudanese is inevitable, noting that Sudan greatly needs a breakthrough to secure the desired democratic transition and build the new Sudan.
