President of Sovereignty Council receives Head of UNITAMS Mission

President of the Transitional Sovereignty Council (TSC) Gen. Abdel-Fattah Al-Burhan has reaffirmed the transitional government’s keenness and determination to complete the process of democratic transformation, holding free and fair elections, and handing over power to an elected government.

Al-Burhan affirmed during his meeting at the Republican Palace today with the Special Representative of the UN Secretary General for Sudan and Head of the United Nations Integrated Transition Assistance Mission in Sudan (UNITAMS) Mr. Volker Perthes the government’s keenness to engage in dialogue with all components to reach a unified vision that guarantees a safe exit from the current crisis.

The President of the Sovereignty Council indicated that the suits against some persons were made by the justice and legal authorities, stressing the independence of the judicial and justice authorities.

The Head of the UNITAMS said in a press statement that the meeting discussed the situation in Darfur and implementation of security measures to which the mission contributes through the Permanent Ceasefire Committee in Darfur.

Mr. Perthes added that the meeting touched on the consultations carried out by the UNITAMS mission to get out of the current crisis in Sudan and the need to create a suitable atmosphere for consultations between

the Sudanese components that would allow rebuilding confidence.

He described the meeting with the President of the Transitional Sovereignty Council as useful and fruitful.
