Ministry of Telecommunications proposes projects worth $ 2 billion

A specialized working group at the Ministry of Telecommunications and Digital Transformation, in cooperation with a team of national experts, have studied and evaluated promising investment opportunities in the telecommunications and information technology sectors, worth nearly $ 2 billion, in preparation for participating in the Paris conference in a manner that supports achieving economic growth and sustainable development in the country.

The study, a copy of which is obtained by SUNA, has pointed out to the great development that took place in the investment climate after removing the name of Sudan from the list of countries sponsoring terrorism, unifying the exchange rate of the national currency, and the measures currently underway to reintegrate Sudan with the global banking and financial sector, and the approval of the law on partnership between the public and private sectors in addition to the national strategy in the field of digital transformation and inclusion for all citizens, considering the right to be covered by telecommunication networks and the Internet as one of the basic rights of the Sudanese citizen.

The study stated that the current geographical coverage of telecommunications services is about 48% of the total area of ​​Sudan, which shows the country’s need to expand coverage in the coming period.

The study included a flagship project, to be presented at the Paris conference to expand and develop the coverage of the telecommunications network in Sudan, as current and new investors are invited to enter into this major project.

Minister of Telecommunications and Digital Transformation Engineer Hashim Hasabalrasoul said in a statement to SUNA that the ministry has prepared a package of facilities and privileges that make investment in this sector attractive to local and international investors, as the state seeks to open investment opportunities in the telecommunications infrastructure with incentive packages to invest in the sector and with multiple models for investment and business, to name a few, licenses for telecom tower companies, Mobile Virtual Network Operators, and business partnerships with multiple investment models and investment incentive terms.

On the other hand, the study included a number of promising projects and investment opportunities in the telecommunications and information technology sectors that will be offered to investors at the Paris conference, including investment projects in developing and improving the fourth generation network and infrastructure development in the telecommunications sector, in addition to many investment projects in the fields of information technology.

These include digitization of government services, financial technologies, electronic payment systems, E-learning solutions, health information systems, digital identity development projects and electronic security, in addition to projects to develop digital capabilities in various regions and cities of Sudan.
