Ministry of Interior Issues Statement on Events at Rahaf Complex in Soba

The Ministry of Interior issued on Wednesday a statement on the incidents that took place on Wednesday at the Rahaf residential complex in Soba area, southern of Khartoum, which is one of the social insurance projects of the Police Forces.

The statement explained that on October 14, 2020, the Police Forces hosted the peace delegations of the armed struggle movements represented by the Third Front –  Tamazuj, the Sudanese Alliance, the Sudan Liberation Movement – the Transitional Council, and the Justice and Equality Movement for one month, as a contribution to support the peace process, indicating that after the expiry of the hosting period, many members of the movements remained in the site despite a statement issued by the head of the National Peace Commission that they it will not be responsible for their illegal stay.

The statement explained that and this illegal stay resulted in several damages in the complex as a result of misuse and deliberate sabotage, in addition to many legal violations.

According to the Police Forces’ statement, on Wednesday, September 1, 2021, a force of the joint forces, led by the Director of the Khartoum Locality Police and under the supervision of the Director of the Emergency and Operations Department of Khartoum State Police, moved to evacuate the complex from the intruders, but the force came under heavy fire upon its arrival from inside the compound.

The statement pointed out that the joint force was then able to control the situation and to clear the site from the aggressors after exchanging fire with them, adding that two members of the armed movements were injured and received treatment, while the joint force is still stationed at the site to secure it.
