In Phone Call with Hamdouk: Blinken Affirms Importance of Sudan for Stability in Regio

The Prime Minister, Dr. Abdalla Hamdouk, Monday made a phone call with the US Secretary of State, Anthony Blinken.

In the call, Blinken stressed the importance of Sudan role in achieving stability in the region, and renewed the United States’ support to the efforts of the civilian-led transitional government to complete the transition tasks, push ahead the country’s comprehensive peace process and to address regional and economic issues, in addition to the importance of boosting the political reforms.

The US Secretary of State also expressed the US government welcome to the signing of the Declaration of Principles between the transitional government, represented by the President of the Sovereignty Council, General Abdul-Fattah Al-Burhan, and the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement – North, led by the  commander Abdulaziz Al-Hillu, affirming that Washington will continue its support for the peace process in Sudan and the Juba agreement for peace in Sudan and signing it as a witness.

The US Secretary of State heard a briefing from the Prime Minister on Sudan position on the issue of the Renaissance Dam and the border issues, and declared his support to the efforts of dialogue and a peaceful solution.

Blinken has pointed to Washington’s support to the Paris Conference and its intention to participate in it at a high level, and to boost the efforts for writing off Sudan debts.

He asserted the US administration’s cooperation with Sudan to recover the looted funds, support reforms of the banking system, and to urge the international banks to cooperate with Sudan.

The Prime Minister and the US Secretary of State also discussed the progress of the work of the National Mechanism for the Protection of Civilians in Darfur and all parts of the country
