Faki Praised Democratic Transition in Sudan

Khartoum,  (SUNA) – Chairperson of the African Union Commission, Moussa Faki Mahamat, has commended the role of African Mediator in the democratic transition in the Sudan during 2019 which was achieved through cooperation between African Union and the government of the Sudan.

Faki, who was addressing the opening session of 33rd African Union Summit in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, has stressed the need to lift the economic sanctions and remove the name of Sudan from from the list of countries washington considers sponsors of international terrorism.

He also presented a report on political situation in the continent.

The Arab League Secretary General, Ahmed Aboul Gheit, in his address before the opening session of African Union Summit has called on the US administrtion to revoke the punitive measures imposed against the Sudan, praising the democratic transition in Sudan. He said Sudan should be delisted from the terror sponsoring group.

Similarly the UN Secretary General, António Guterres, told the opening session of the same event that the international community should assist the transitional government in the Sudan, indicating that the UN would be working for the succuss of the Friends of Sudan conference which will be held in April. He further called on the US to remove the name of the Sudan from the terror sponsoring list
