Fadl: no justification for Ethiopia’s intransigence to reach GERD Agreement

The Secretary General for the Sudanese Council for External Affairs, Dr. Yousef has affirmed that no justification for Ethiopia’s intransigence to reach an agreement on the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam.

This came in press statement to SUNA following a closed-door discussion held at the Diplomatic Club, on the regional and international dimensions of the Sudanese-Ethiopian relations.

He said that the 1902 Entebbe Framework Agreement contains a text on the waters of the Nile according to which Ethiopia is obligated to consult with the Government of Sudan, especially in the case of projects on the Blue Nile, Sobat and rivers flowing into Sudan, noting that the position of Sudan and Egypt was unified in the Entebbe Framework Agreement with regard to water security in Article 14 of this Agreement.

Dr. Fadl affirmed Sudan’s ability to protect the borders according to 1992, stressing the necessity for preservation of the higher strategic interest.
