Daglo Meets with Norwegian Minister of International Development

The First Vice – President of the Transitional Sovereignty Council, Lt. Gen. Mohamed Hamdan Daglo, received in his office at the Republican Palace on Monday the Norwegian Minister of International Development, Dag-Inge Ulstein, and discussed the efforts to reform a number of sectors and the arrangements being made by the government to prepare for the upcoming elections.

The Norwegian minister has pointed to the efforts made by his country, within the Troika group, to write off Sudan debts.

Ulstein expressed his appreciation of the efforts made by the transitional government in Sudan to achieve peace and to carry out the process of democratization and economic development.

He stated that that his visit to Sudan comes within the framework of the distinguished relations between the Kingdom of Norway and Sudan, noting that Norway government stands by Sudan and has made all efforts to strengthen this partnership, announcing that his country has extended an additional financial contribution for the family support program.

He expressed his hope that his visit will be an opportunity to continue support and to strengthen the cooperation between the two countries.

The Norwegian l Minister of International Development praised the efforts of the transitional government and the local communities in hosting refugees, adding that he visited Um-Rakoba camp in Gedarif State, and inspected the conditions there.

He stressed the importance of concerted efforts between the government, the civil society organizations and the youth sector of both sexes to sit together to overcome the obstacles and difficulties, adding that he held today (Monday) a discussion session with university students which was rich with good and bright ideas.
