Court of plotters of 1989 coup adjourns session for illness of investigator

Khartoum,   (SUNA) – The court trying plotters of the 1989 coup adjourned its session today in Khartoum due to the illness of the investigator in the case to the 17th of current May.

The session witnessed a heated debate between the representatives of the prosecution and the defense, which called on the court judge to intervene to settle the matter.

The authorities concerned with the protection and transportation of the accused had requested the court to return the defendants to prison before the start of the protest marches in Khartoum in order to preserve their safety.

For his part, Abdul-Basit Sabdarat, the lawyer of the accused, Al-Bashir, and a number of the defendants stressed that the court’s sessions should continue under any circumstances, objecting to the adjournment of the session due to the marches.

The representative of the prosecution called for adjournment of the court’s session due to the conditions of the investigator, pleading to the court to prevent the defense from sending any political messages by benefiting from the broadcast of the court sessions.
