Council of Ministers Forms (Crisis Cell) to Address Current Situation

Khartoum,  (SUNA) – The Council of Ministers Monday held its emergency sitting (3), chaired by the Prime Minister, Dr. Abdalla Hamdouk, which discussed the issue of current crisis in the country.

The Council of Ministers reviewed the current situation in the country and the rapid pace of events during the past two years of the transitional period through a constructive, frank and transparent discussion, and affirmed its full keenness to address this current political crisis on the basis of its national and historical responsibility.

The meeting assured the importance of dialogue between all parties to the current crisis, whether between the components of the Freedom and Change, or between the components of the Freedom and Change and the military component of the Transitional Sovereignty Council.

The Council of Ministers decided formation of a joint “crisis cell” from all parties to address the current situation, and to abide by an urgent agreement on practical solutions aimed at boosting, protecting, stability and the success of the civil democratic transformation, and preserving the historical gains of our people’s struggles in deepening the values of freedom, peace and justice

The Council of Ministers stressed the importance of the refrain of all parties from escalation and counter-escalation, and that everyone shall elevate the supreme interest of the citizens of the Sudanese people and the country.

At the conclusion of the discussion, the Prime Minister stressed the need to look to the future instead of drowning in the details of the past, emphasizing the agreement to continue the dialogue between all sides despite all the differences.

He said that cessation of dialogue during the past period between the components of the Partnership is a matter that poses a danger to the future of the country, and therefore it must change, and there must be agreement on solutions to the current issues and the rest of the requirements of the democratic transition.

Dr. pointed out. Hamdouk said that history “will judge on our success in bringing stability and democracy to our country and the people, reiterating the importance of addressing the essence of issues and avoiding personalization of matters.”

The Council of Ministers reiterated the support to the efforts being made to address the issue of eastern Sudan, and underscored relentless endeavor and commitment to finding just solutions that preserve the interests of the citizens in the East.

The Council of Minister was briefed on the ongoing contacts with the leaders of the protests, led by the chieftain Mohamed Al-Amin Tirik, and decided continuation of these efforts in a way that leads to solving the current situation in east Sudan, in a way that creates a positive and appropriate atmosphere to reach permanent solutions and to remove all types of marginalization from the citizens of the East, top of which is the developmental and economic marginalization.
