Chief of Joint Staff Received US Charge d’Affaires

Khartoum,  (SUNA)- The Chief of Joint Staff, Lt. Gen. (Dr.) Kamal Abdul-Maarouf, received in his office Sunday the American Charge d’Affaires to Khartoum, Steven Koutsis, in presence of the American Military Attache at the US Embassy.

The meeting has discussed a number of issues of mutual concern, the regional and international situation as well as means of enhancing the security situation and stability at the region.

Lt. Gen. Abdul-Maarouf has affirmed the importance of communication and dialogue between the two parties and pressing ahead for enhancing the relations between Sudan and the United States through dialogue and joint work.

The US Charge d’Affaires has expressed the United States’ appreciation of the efforts being exerted by Sudan and its commitment to support the international peace and security.

He referred to the successes achieved in the first stage in the joint dialogue between the two countries and coming stage of the dialogue that would begin shortly.

Ambassador Koutsis has invited the Chief of Staff to visit Washington in early next October to attend the Conference for Combating Violent Extremism along with the chiefs of staff of more than 120 armies around the world and the Conference of the American Army’s Union.

Lt. Gen. Abdul-Maarouf is due to discuss in his expected visit to Washington with officials at the US Defence Ministry and his American counterpart ways of boosting the military cooperation between Sudan and the United States
