Ambitious plan (2030) to achieve Sudan’s objectives of water resources management

he Minister of Irrigation and Water Resources, Professor Yasser Abbas addressed yesterday the meetings for implementing the goals and objectives of the 2030 plan related to water, held Thursday evening at the United Nations General Assembly Hall in New York headed by the chairman of the assembly’s 75th session.

In his recorded address, Prof. Yasser to the challenges that the Sudan faces in achieving the goals and objectives of 2030 in terms of managing drinking water, sanitation and irrigation resources, stressing that the transitional government in Sudan has drawn up plans for the next ten years to develop the sector and fill gaps into programs for a comprehensive development that includes basic services and building trust between societies and government.

He pointed to the Sudan need for cooperation and external partnerships with the national private sector, the work with the academic community in a more effective way to enhance scientific research and strengthen government institutions, in order to ensure the sustainable planning and application of water resources, drinking water and sanitation management processes, in addition to the importance of investment that enable Sudan to establish infrastructure.

During the high-level meeting, 160 countries issued a joint statement, expressing their strong commitment to the 6th goals of the sustainable development , and cast lights on the challenges facing the world including the lack of vision in international action, to water scarcity due to increased demand and climate change and insufficient financing.

The meeting was addressed by the President of the General Assembly, Volkan Bozkir, Henrietta Fore, the UNICEF Executive Director, and a number of water ministers.
