Al-Taayeshi Meets Head of UNITAMS

Khartoum,  (SUNA) – Member of the Transitional Sovereignty Council, Mohamed Hassan Al-Taayeshi, received in his office at the Republican Palace the UN Special Representative for Sudan and head of the United Nations Integrated Transition Assistance Mission in Sudan (UNITAMS), Volker Perthes, and expressed thanks to the mission for statement after the failed coup attempt, in which it has condemned the failed attempt and affirmed its alongside the Sudanese people for achieving success of the transitional period.

In a press statement, Al-Taayeshi said that the meeting tackled the important role of UNITAMS in supporting the transitional government and for the success of its tasks, indicating that the meeting clearly addressed the political crises facing the transitional period.

He stressed that whatever these crises are, this will not make us abandon the basic principles on which the transitional government is based and the main objectives on which it is relying, affirming the importance of adherence to the constitutional document and the political agreement that was agreed upon between the partners of the transitional period.

He indicated that establishment of the partnership on the bases of the democratic transition and providing guarantees for the democratic transition in Sudan is one of the major principles that the transitional period partners must abide by.

Al-Taayeshi has affirmed the importance of commitment of the partners to the clear principles and slogans of the glorious December revolution for achieving the aspired success and breaking the vicious cycle that contributed to the political instability, the low level of national unity and the outbreak of civil wars.

He said that the partners of the transitional period must learn from the stances of the glorious December revolution and Sudan’s dark experiences in the military coups and political instability.

He said that there is an opportunity to get out of the current political crisis because there is no other choice than success of the transitional period and the transition to a full democratic system.

On his part, the Head of UNITAMS described his meeting with the Transitional Council’s member as fruitful and constructive; indicating that he lately met with members of the Transitional Sovereignty Council’s members and a number of leaders and discussed the challenges facing the transition and the conditions in the country.

He expressed his message that “It is very important to maintain the partnership between the partners of the transitional period,” describing this partnership as exemplary and will lead to a full and comprehensive transition to the democratic civil rule and peace.

Volcker called for reducing the escalation and media confrontation and focusing on the dialogue and cooperation, stating that the political differences are something natural.

He affirmed the need for cooperation for the sake of the homeland to move ahead towards political transition, internal peace and democracy
